Oil company leases 5,500 acres in Dyer County

More than 5,500 acres in Dyer County have been leased to a Louisiana oil and gas exploration company.

HPS Oil and Gas Properties Inc., based in Lafayette, La., is overseeing the project registered to its subsidiary, Charleston Energy.

President Gary L. Salmon says he has been convinced by some Tennessee geologists that there is potentially recoverable oil and gas in the area.

The oil and gas leases were registered Charleston Energy on March 17. The documents were signed by the local landowners in November 2007 and filed in the Dyer County Register of Deeds office. Read more
